Launched in 2009, following the Lehman Brothers collapse and the international financial crisis that followed, Comme des Garçons BLACK was Comme des Garçons’ answer to the changes and needs of society at the time with a collection of affordable and timeless pieces. It reflects Rei Kawakubo's attention to both the design and business side of the company she built. The line reintroduces some of the perennially popular Comme des Garçons styles in the iconic color black – with interjections of gold and strong colours each season, often in the shape of prints by Filip Pagowski.
