Slam Jam & Converse teamed up first in 2021, with Slam Jam’s Chuck Taylor. The black model featured the Slam Jam upside-down ‘A’, silver laces and frayed upper edges. An ode to the 80’s punk movement and one of the icons from these years.
This time around we were inspired by off-court basketball and how it penetrated the culture as a mean for emancipation, creating an independent attitude for people who got their head in the game.
Follow Dan Regan’s lenses and peek through LA backyards and basketball courts. What you’ll get is an unofficial uniform for street-basketball lifestyle enthusiasts.
Slam Jam’s Icon Logo intertwines with Converse’s Star on hoodies, shirts and saggy sweatpants. The latter have been a must in skate culture and hip-hop since the early 90s.
Loose overused garments get distressed, to look good on and off the court. It’s a tribute to the early days of street culture. Heavy fleece and visible stitches are key. Back then, t-shirts were worn inside-out, so you could wear each garment to the bone.
The Slam Jam Converse is available from June 15th at Slam Jam doors and on converse.com.
